Independence Day Celebration 2020
This year, India is going to celebrate its 74th Independence Day that commemorates the independence of our entire nation from British rule. But, currently, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will no such social gatherings as a part of the celebration.
Instead of this, all the government and state offices are asked to webcast their celebrations and events.
Even, this year, there will be limited gathering at the Red Fort where mainly the flag will be hosted. All the necessary precautions will also be taken. In recent years, there will not be any of the grand performances with the military bands.
Significance Of This Day
Independence day is considered to be the remainder of the huge sacrifices which are made by our freedom fighters. They made the sacrifice only for us i.e. the future generation so that, we could breathe in the free air.
The British made our country slave for about 200 years and it is only because of the contribution made by our national heroes, that we have achieved freedom.
On the 15th of August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru hosted the tricolored flag of India at the Red Fort in Delhi. This practice is even continued today along with the flag hoisting and on that day, every year, a speech is delivered by the Prime Minister.
The celebration also includes national parade by various battalions of the Indian Army bands. But, this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Defence Ministry has said that the military bands are preparing their shows in advance. Instead of a live performance, it will be telecasted on Independence Day.
Also, this year, the country will observe kite flying even which is associated with the celebration of Independence Day. By making use of the different sized flags, people symbolize their patriotism for the country. Our home is also decorated with the color of the national flag.
Not only that, Indians who live in other parts of the world also celebrate Independence Day. Several cities in the United States have also declared Independence Day of India i.e. 15th of August as India Day.
